Abandonments

Utility Abandonment Services

SMC Contracting provides utility abandonment services for projects in Palm Beach County that require the proper decommissioning of existing underground infrastructure. When properties are redeveloped, connected to new utility systems, or demolished, existing utilities such as sewer laterals, water lines, and septic systems must be properly abandoned in accordance with local codes.

Improper abandonment of underground utilities can lead to sinkholes, contamination, and code violations. Our crews follow all municipal requirements for capping, filling, and documenting abandoned utilities to ensure the work passes inspection and protects the property long-term.

Our Abandonment Services Include:

  • Sewer Lateral Abandonment: Properly disconnecting and capping sewer laterals at the main when properties are demolished or converted to a new sewer connection.
  • Septic System Abandonment: Pumping, collapsing or removing septic tanks, and filling with clean sand or gravel as required by the health department.
  • Water Line Abandonment: Disconnecting and capping water service lines at the main.
  • Drain Field Abandonment: Proper decommissioning of septic drain fields when properties connect to municipal sewer.
  • Documentation & Inspection: Coordinating with local authorities for required inspections and providing documentation of completed abandonments.

Abandonment work requires permits and inspections. Contact us to discuss your project requirements.
